About

Bula Djang (Earthquake Story). Acrylic painting by Jeremiah Garlngarr.
Jeremiah Garlngarr, 2016, Bula Djang (Earthquake story).

Ele Carpenter will introduce her curatorial research into contemporary art and nuclear culture, focusing on how her conversations with artists in Australia contribute to the spatial mapping of radiation in the landscape. Her sabbatical in Australia is focused on the challenges of decolonising the discourses of the Nuclear Anthropocene, identifying what is ‘out of scope’ of the European Commission Directive on Radioactive Waste. Ele is also happy to answer questions about nuclear site markers, radioactive waste, nuclear submarines and the variable risk perception of Uranium Glass.

Current research project: How can theoretical and curatorial work on nuclear culture and aesthetics create a new geo-political space for decolonial nuclear traces over time and space?

It was created with the consent of the custodians of the community. Dealing with any part of the image for any purpose that has not been authorised by the custodians is a serious breach of the customary laws of the Jawoyn and Kunwinjku community.
