Applications to the CDU Human Research Ethics Committee (CDU-HREC) and Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) are reviewed by the respective Research Ethics Committee’s at Charles Darwin University and governed by relevant legislation and guidelines. CDU-HREC operates in accordance with the National Statement  Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018). The CDU HREC provide services to all current CDU Higher Degree by Research students and Staff.

The CDU Animal Ethics Committee and Animal Welfare Officer (acting in accordance with the NT Animal Welfare Act and regulations and the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes), are responsible for the administration of animal ethics and welfare at CDU. The CDU AEC provides services to both CDU researchers and educators, as well as those from other organisations throughout the Northern Territory, assisting them to comply with ethical and legislative requirements.

The Dean of Graduate Studies provides strategic advice on establishing the academic framework for research training at the University and working with colleges and institutes to ensure the University maintains appropriate standards for research training at the University (including admission, appropriate infrastructure, supervision, and examination).

Under the leadership of the Dean of Graduate Studies and the Early Career Researcher (ECR) coordinator, the Office of Research and Innovations provides career development support for early career researchers in CDU colleges and research centres.

Operations and Research Strategy

The team  is responsible for the organisation, coordination, reporting and liaison on all research portfolio governance and policy development/review matters, strategic and day-to-day operational management of ORI. The Operations and Research Strategy team manages the strategic allocation of Commonwealth Block Grant (RSP and RTP), and provision of internal research financial support programs to academics primarily the Rainmaker Scheme, Open Access scheme and targeted investmentment to support research infrastructure and salaries of key researchers. The team is responsible for the organisation, coordination, reporting and liaison on all research portfolio governance and policy development/review matters, as well as the strategic and day-to-day operational management of ORI.

Members of the Research Grants and Systems (RGS) team ensure the smooth operation of the research information system that collects, maintains, reports and showcases information about the university’s research activities.

The RGS team is also accountable for high quality research grants and business development services designed to increase the level of external funding and is responsible for overseeing the administration of research grant and consulting funding.

The team is responsible for coordinating the collection of research outputs and publications by CDU researchers and showcasing them through the institutional repository, CDU’s Research Webportal. Team members can also assist CDU researchers to develop, manage and coordinate submissions of research grant and tender applications, and provide administrative support through all stages of a grant, tender or project.

The Research Impact and Excellence team leads cross-functional projects supporting CDU's objectives to maximise our research impact and excellence.
