Overview
This education program of study is not yet accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) or approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Accreditation and approval will be sought from ANMAC and NMBA for the course to lead to endorsement for scheduled medicines as a designated registered nurse prescriber.
The Graduate Certificate of Registered Nurse Prescribing is a coursework program designed to prepare Registered Nurses working in a range of specialty practice settings, including but not limited to acute care, primary health care, community, and residential care settings, to develop the knowledge and skills required for prescribing scheduled medicines within an extended scope of practice.
The course is offered online and draws on contemporary research, evidence, and legislation relevant to nurse prescribing. The curriculum incorporates the National Prescribing Competencies Framework, Quality Use of Medicines principles, and the National Medicines Policy to support safe and effective prescribing practices.
Note: Students cannot commence study in this program until accreditation and regulatory approvals have been obtained. Due to this, offers will not be made until accreditation is received
Career opportunities
Subject to successful accreditation by ANMAC and approval by the NMBA, graduates may be eligible to apply for Endorsement for Scheduled Medicines as a Designated Registered Nurse Prescriber. This may support career opportunities for Registered Nurses to practise within an extended scope of practice in a range of healthcare settings.
On completion of the Graduate Certificate, graduates may choose to continue their studies in the Master of Clinical Nursing. This course may also provide a pathway towards further professional development and career progression, including preparation for advanced practice roles such as Nurse Practitioner, subject to meeting relevant regulatory, educational and employment requirements.
Professional recognition
This education program of study is currently undergoing accreditation assessment by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) and approval by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
