Please join us for a public seminar by visiting researcher, Dr Ingrid Wilson, on Alcohol and Intimate Partner Violence: Centering Women's Experiences in Prevention.
Summary: Harmful alcohol use is a recognised risk factor for intimate partner violence (IPV) and violence against children in the home, yet it remains under-addressed in many prevention frameworks. In this seminar, Dr Wilson draws on her research with Australian women, as well as global qualitative studies, to centre women's experiences of alcohol-related IPV and the broader impacts of men’s drinking. She will also present emerging perspectives in alcohol policy, highlighting opportunities for interventions that enhance the safety of women and children where alcohol use is closely linked to violent behaviour.
Dr Ingrid Wilson is an Assistant Professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology and an Honorary Research Fellow at the Judith Lumley Centre, La Trobe University. Her research focuses on reducing alcohol-related intimate partner violence, with a particular emphasis on the experiences of women survivors. Ingrid is the founder of ReGen: Reducing Gender-based Violence Network at La Trobe University and has a background in alcohol policy within the Victorian State Government and the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
Attendance can be online via the link below.
Or in person at CDU Danala Campus, Room 4.23, Level 4, 54 Cavenagh St, Darwin City.
