CDU to mark alumni success stories
Charles Darwin University will recognise the success and innovation of past graduates in its newly established Alumni Awards, with nominations now open.
The accolades will acknowledge the exceptional achievements of alumni, from those who are established in their careers to others who are just starting out.
Past CDU graduates include the Administrator of the Northern Territory Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AO, Chief Minister Michael Gunner, Chair of Business South Australia Nikki Govan and former Prime Minister of Tuvalu Willy Telavi.
CDU Alumni Manager Nurhadi Khan said the awards would highlight the contribution of CDU alumni at local, national and international levels.
“There are more than 70,000 CDU alumni across 140 countries, and they play a pivotal role in the history and future of the university,” Mr Khan said.
“The awards will recognise and celebrate alumni who demonstrate exceptional professional, academic or research achievements and contributions to our society.”
The NT Administrator said the Charles Darwin University Alumni Awards were a “wonderful opportunity to recognise the achievements of past students”.
“CDU graduates are making valuable contributions in diverse fields around the world,” she said.
CDU alumni can nominate themselves or be nominated by a family member or friend.
Nominations for the inaugural awards have been extended until 12 June (midnight), with an awards ceremony scheduled for October 2020. For more information on how to make a nomination visit W: cdu.edu.au/alumni-giving/alumni-awards
Award categories for the 2020 Charles Darwin University Alumni Awards:
Indigenous Alumnus Award
Awarded to an Indigenous alumnus who demonstrates outstanding contributions to the community, their profession and/or whose achievements have positively impacted outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
International Alumnus Award
Awarded to an international alumnus who demonstrates outstanding contributions to the community and/or their profession.
Alumnus Award for Industry Excellence
Awarded to an alumnus who demonstrates evidence of outstanding contributions to a workplace, profession or industry.
Alumnus Award for Service to the Community
Awarded to an alumnus who demonstrates a sustained positive contribution to the community.
Alumnus Award for Early Career Achievement
Awarded to an alumnus who has graduated in the last five years and demonstrates outstanding contributions to the community and/or their profession.
Distinguished Alumnus Award
Awarded to an alumnus who demonstrates outstanding contributions to the community and/or their profession. Alumni cannot nominate for this category. The winner of the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year will be selected by the Awards Committee from the categories above.

CDU TAFE First Nations students reach more than 3,300 for the first time
During 2025 First Nations students represented 30 percent of total students at CDU TAFE, a jump of 550 students from 2,747 in 2024 to more than 3,300 in 2025. A first for the TAFE and well surpassing the national average.
