Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Northern Territory will be promoted as the preferred destination to study among students from the Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia following the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). 

The MoU was signed last week by CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman and Australian International Islamic College (AIIC) founder, His Eminence the National Grand Mufti of Australia Imam Abdul Quddoos Azhari.

Charles Darwin University (CDU) will collaborate with leading disability service Carpentaria to promote education opportunities and develop the health workforce following the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU was signed in early December by CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman and Carpentaria Disability Services Chief Executive Annie Rily. 

Three Charles Darwin University (CDU) students have been awarded Australian Government New Colombo Plan Scholarships for 2024, with exciting plans to study at universities in the Indo-Pacific and gain a deeper insight into their chosen fields.

Isabella Burton, Liliana Leschi and Jayden Ilett were selected to participate in the prestigious initiative, provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to cultivate a deeper understanding of the region among Australia's future leaders. 

Charles Darwin University (CDU) Language and Learning Advisor (TAFE), Brendan Reid has won the 2023 Australian Training Award in Excellence in Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Practice. 

Mr Reid has held the position since 2010 and is a dedicated and passionate individual who works with students and staff to help students overcome literacy and numeracy challenges, to support them to complete their qualifications.  

Charles Darwin University (CDU) has officially renamed its basketball court at the Casuarina Campus to acknowledge Larrakia language and former Northern Territory Administrator, The Honourable Austin Asche AC KC.

In partnership with Larrakia Nation, the facility is co-named ‘Gulwa | The Austin Asche Hall’, and was recently celebrated at a naming ceremony which included speeches and a plaque unveiling.

‘Gulwa’ means a corroboree, to sing and dance in celebration.

A species of ray, so rare it has only ever been recorded once back in the late 1800s, has been declared extinct after an assessment by an international team led by Charles Darwin University (CDU). 

The loss of the Java Stingaree, a small relative of stingrays, is the first marine fish extinction as a result of human activity. 

This news comes as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) released its updated Red List of Threatened Species this week.
