A Charles Darwin University (CDU) cybersecurity expert has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) at the recent 2023 Cyber Security Industry Awards.

A Senior Lecturer in Information Technology, Energy and Resources Institute academic Dr Bharanidharan Shanmugam received the award for Outstanding Contribution for his dedication to growing the ASIA Northern Territory branch.

For the first time since her business inception, hair stylist and educator Lorna Evans brought her skills and expertise to the Red Centre for her sought-after masterclass at Charles Darwin University (CDU).

Ms Evans is a well-known name in the hairstyling industry, having worked with Matrix in their education department and Redken.

At Redken she worked as a hair director, a role that took her around the world and showcased her styles on major red carpets in Australia, London and New York.

The Northern Territory’s dusty red tracks are a long way from the city streets of Chicago, but for Charles Darwin University (CDU) PhD candidate Adam Rexroade, his commute to work is far more exciting and adventurous down under.

Mr Rexroade’s research has taken him from the NT to Far North Queensland, to discover how carbon cycles through streams and rivers and affects tropical ecosystems.

As the Northern Territory continues to experience extreme weather conditions, Charles Darwin University (CDU) researchers are investigating the role community leaders play in building resilience during times of drought.

Findings from the study will help develop a drought resilience framework to help prepare and strengthen the community’s response when drought occurs.

Projections show that in the coming months, the Northern Territory will experience a higher level of drought severity due to changes in El Nino and the Indian Ocean Dipole.

Charles Darwin University (CDU) staff are getting behind a good cause this month and raising money for Movember, a charity focused on shining a light on men’s health.

Several staff members, including CDU Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation Professor Steve Rogers and Diversity and Inclusion Consultant Daniel O’Neill are growing moustaches to raise funds for the important cause.

A Charles Darwin University (CDU) research alumni has returned to the University to undertake a placement as part of a prestigious fellowship supporting female agricultural researchers across the Indo Pacific.
