Why Alcyonie chose Environmental Science at CDU
Nagendra arrived in Australia from Tikapur in Nepal to further his education and pursue a dream career. Four years later he’s a proud CDU graduate with a Masters of Professional Accounting. He currently works as Receiver of Territory Monies in patient accounts at Royal Darwin Hospital.
The future challenges that sustainability will face and the urgent need to reduce the negative effects of human activity and encouragement of more sustainable attitudes. CDU has an important role to play in terms of educating and engaging consumers, businesses and stakeholders, as well as by conducting effective sustainability-focused research.
A global study of sewage contamination in harbours, with samples taken from 18 cities across five continents, has revealed that faecal contamination of Darwin Harbour from sewage is very low compared to the rest of the world.
Traditional Owners, along with many other stakeholders, will work together on developing the Integrated Report Card. Over the next few years, the Report Card will track the health of Darwin Harbour to allow informed decision making towards a sustainable future for all those living in the surrounding area.
Dr Michael Odei Erdiaw-Kwasie is a Research Active Lecturer in the Business and Accounting Discipline at Charles Darwin University. He holds a PhD in Sustainability Management from the University of Southern Queensland and an Honours Certificate of Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Pennsylvania.
