Environment student group EnviroCollective CDU is inviting students, staff and the public to participate in a citizen science project to discover the diversity of bird species on Casuarina campus, as part of the Aussie Backyard Bird Count.
Dr. Keller Kopf is an ecologist and lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Technology. Keller moved to Darwin in 2020 after working as a research and teaching fellow at Charles Sturt University, where his research focused on invasive species, food webs and ecological responses to river flows in the Murray-Darling Basin.

Dr Cara Penton is a research fellow at Charles Darwin University and Ecological Monitoring Manager with Warddeken Land Management Ltd., working as a cross-cultural ecologist and researcher. She completed her PhD in 2021, investigating whether tree hollows limit arboreal mammals in northern Australian savannas, with fieldwork on the Tiwi Islands focused on species such as the brush-tailed rabbit-rat, black-footed tree-rat, and northern brushtail possum.
My research focuses on applying Earth observation satellites and unoccupied aerial vehicles for environmental and agricultural studies. I lead the Remote Sensing and Earth Observation research group. In this lab, we use LiDAR, SAR (synthetic aperture radar), optical remote sensing technologies, and AI for invasive plant detection and mapping, groundwater-dependent vegetation monitoring, habitat monitoring, vegetation clearing and fragmentation, and monitoring GHG emissions
Associate Professor Surjan is proactively engaged with the issues of disaster-environment-climate risk reduction, global change and sustainability in the context of human settlements.
Shuanghong took a chance on herself when she moved from China to Australia to study at CDU. The first person in her village to follow a path to university abroad, CDU’s supportive learning environment and practical work experience has changed the direction of her life.
