Overview
The Graduate Certificate of Community Paramedicine (Urgent Care) at Charles Darwin University is designed to enhance healthcare delivery across community, primary health and rural and remote settings. It prepares paramedics to deliver extended-scope care outside traditional emergency environments.
The course develops advanced clinical knowledge, decision-making and patient assessment skills, with a focus on evidence-based practice, culturally responsive care and service delivery within diverse community health contexts.

What will I study?
The Graduate Certificate of Community Paramedicine (Urgent Care) comprises 40 Credit Points across four core units. The course develops advanced knowledge and extended assessment skills required for safe and culturally responsive community paramedicine practice. Individual units focus upon analysis of current health system integration, evidence-based practice, extended clinical assessment skills, pathophysiology, pharmacology and clinical governance. Learning activities and assessments focus on applying knowledge to contemporary community healthcare contexts.
Course structure
The course is delivered primarily online and includes one compulsory three-day face-to-face intensive to support practical skills development and assessment. The program is designed for part-time study, with two units completed per semester to support progressive development while accommodating working paramedics.
A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 40 credit points (cp) as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated.

Admission criteria
Applicants must have:
- Successful completion of a Bachelor of Paramedicine, or equivalent international qualification with a 5.0 GPA or higher (Credit).
- Current and unrestricted registration as a Paramedic with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Applicants must have been registered for a minimum of two years prior to the course commencement date.
- Two years full-time equivalent (FTE) employment as a Paramedic. Applicants must supply details of all relevant employment on their SATAC application.
