Overview
In this microcredential participants will review, evaluate and apply policies and frameworks that impact language communities, particularly in non-dominant and First Nations language contexts. Participants will consider language policies from international, national, regional and local jurisdictions. Case studies offering insights into particular language environments will be examined, and participants will identify and apply policy areas to their own situations and contexts.
This microcredential will be of interest to people working in community language programs, NGOs, schools and education providers, as well as language learners and language advocates, and anyone with an interest in language.
The 6-week microcredential includes a combination of a 1-day F2F/online workshop and self-paced online learning content.
Learning outcomes
- Understand the foundations of language policy, including its historical, social and political dimensions, particularly in relation to non-dominant language groups
- Reflect on the ethical considerations in language policy development and implementation, and the impacts of language policies on cultural identity and linguistic rights
