Alumni - Imran

Imran arrived in Darwin from Bangladesh to study a Bachelor of Accounting.

After graduating, he started working at Western Arnhem Council in a contract role, where his passion and hard work was quickly recognised.

“I was doing such a good job with Western Arnhem Council that they kept giving me new contracts,” he says. “Finally, I got my permanent contract as acting finance officer and then progressed to a management accountant.”

Networking

Imran believes that networking is the key to success in any field. He thanks CDU for helping him to make connections to further his professional skills and studies.

“CDU hosts lots of different events for accounting,” he says. “There are CPA events, business events and job expos where you can speak to potential employers and give them your resume.”

The Darwin lifestyle

Imran loves Darwin’s diversity and the welcoming communities.

“Darwin has lots of associations like the Bangladeshi, Indian, Sri Lankan and Philippines associations,” he says.

“They have lots of open events so you can go and understand their culture, experience their food and exchange their cultural understanding.”

When not at work, Imran enjoys getting out on Darwin’s waterways.

“You don’t have to go far in Darwin to fish. There are about 50 great fishing spots in the local area with plenty of fish to be caught,” he says.

The perfect blend

“I always suggest people come to Darwin to start their study and career life,’ says Imran. “
Darwin is the best place for doing this.”

“It doesn’t matter what you study, there are lots of job opportunities once you graduate.

I've been happily working in my current job for five and a half years and it’s the same with many of my other friends. We’re all enjoying the Darwin life.”
