New year, new space: CDU Sydney expansion focused on student success

Charles Darwin University (CDU) is levelling up its Sydney campus with a fifth floor, just in time for the flood of students arriving to start their higher education journeys with the University in Australia’s largest city.  

It is the second floor to be added to the campus in two years. 
 

The new floor will house Student Central, a new Library, classrooms and a large student kitchen. Sydney campus has also expanded student services, a member from the student engagement team, a new access and inclusion officer, as well as a new team of student leaders. 
 

There will be up to 250 new students at the Sydney campus in first semester 2026 who will have access to the new spaces. 
 

CDU Associate Vice-Chancellor Sydney Dr Sascha Jenkins said the new space is set up for student support and success. 
 

“As our student cohort grows, we are ensuring that they have access to the services and supports that they need no matter their background or future aspirations,” Dr Jenkins said.  
 

“We are excited to welcome our new students onto campus this week, our students come from a range of backgrounds and often are first generation Australians or the first in their families to attend University.  
 

"By providing them the opportunity to connect with other students and staff, to take part in the activities planned, our aim is for them to feel prepared and supported for their studies.” 
 

Activities across the week in Sydney will include CDU Student Life Sessions, pizza lunches and social mixers. 
 

CDU Student Leader Grace Ponmudi said she is looking forward to supporting the new students on the campus and sharing her tips and tricks for studying and living in Sydney.  
 

“As a Student Leader and part of the Senior Buddy Program I am hoping to help our new students understand and engage with all the services and support systems the University has for us,” Ms Ponmudi said.  
 

“I know it can all feel overwhelming, so I hope that when they see a familiar face and remember everyone is here to support them.”
