Overview
Our Graduate Diploma of Public Health will equip you with the skills needed to investigate, critique and respond to real world population health problems in local and global contexts. This course provides the unique opportunity to learn from acclaimed Menzies School of Health Research professionals in the specialist areas of Indigenous health, global health, public health practice and health research.
You will acquire advanced knowledge and skills in:
- epidemiology
- biostatistics
- quantitative and qualitative research methods.
You will learn to analyse and interpret population health information, evaluate and design public health interventions and formulate strategies to address complex health and social issues.
You will apply public health approaches to:
- health promotion
- disease control
- health systems
- health policy
- decision making
- the environment
- the sustainable development goals.
On completion, you can articulate to the Master of Public Health with the option of undertaking a supervised research project.
Career opportunities for our graduate include professional public health practice; health policy and planning; epidemiology; communicable and chronic disease control; health research; community development and aid work.

Fees
Both Commonwealth supported (CS) and full fee (FF) places are available for this course. If you would like to apply for a CS place use the SATAC code 1GD035 or UAC code 822070. If you would like to apply for a FF place you will need to use the SATAC code 1GD535 or UAC code 872070.
Commonwealth supported places
Commonwealth Supported places are available in this course to students who meet one of the following residency requirements:
(a) be an Australian citizen, who will complete some of your course of study while resident in Australia; or
(b) a New Zealand citizen; or an Australian permanent visa holder; or an eligible former permanent humanitarian visa holder; who studies the entire course while living in Australia.

International tuition fees
The annual tuition fee for full time study is AUD $31,584.00. This equates to $ $3,948.00 per 10 credit point unit (0.125 EFTSL).
These fees are subject to increases annually, effective at the start of each calendar year.

What will I study?
The Graduate Diploma of Public Health is a one year course. The core units cover the essential knowledge and skills of public health and the choice of specialist electives provide students with opportunities to explore various areas of public health practice, Indigenous health and global health. On completion, students can articulate to the Master of Public Health. Delivered externally online; some units are offered with an internal option.
Course structure
The Graduate Diploma of Public Health is a one year course. The core units cover the essential knowledge and skills of public health and the choice of specialist electives provide students with opportunities to explore various areas of public health practice, Indigenous health and global health. On completion, students can articulate to the Master of Public Health.
Delivered externally online; some units are offered with an internal option.
A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 80 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

Entry requirements
Admission criteria
Successful completion of a recognised bachelor degree, graduate diploma, master's degree, or equivalent international qualification. Registered nurses who are graduates of a hospital-based program are also eligible for entry
Consideration will be given to applicants who hold a graduate certificate.
International entry pathway
International Pathway
Applicants who have completed the CDU International Masters Qualifying Program (ZMQP01) or the Accelerated International Masters Qualifying Program (ZAMQP1) are eligible for entry.
Essential requirements
English language requirements
To gain entry into Charles Darwin University, all Higher Education applicants must satisfy the University's English Language Proficiency Requirements for their chosen course of study. International applicants will be required to supply evidence of this at the time of application.
The minimum English language requirement for this course is met by either undertaking previous education from an English-speaking country or undertaking one of the following English language tests and obtaining the minimum requirements listed below.
