Overview
The Master of Construction Management equips you with advanced skills and knowledge to manage complex construction projects in contemporary industry. The course focuses on planning, coordinating, and controlling construction activities, resources, costs, contracts, and risks to deliver projects efficiently and sustainably.
You will develop capability in theory and practice including construction technology, digital systems such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), estimating and cost planning, contract administration, supply chain management, risk management, and sustainability. You will be prepared to address technical, commercial, and organisational challenges across the construction project lifecycle, with particular relevance to Northern Territory and Australian construction contexts.
Through practical placement experience in the second year of study, you will have the opportunity to apply your learning in professional construction environments and further develop your adaptability, leadership, and professional judgement. Professional experience includes 300 hours of professional practice-related activity, which may include face-to-face, virtual, or online engagement.
Career opportunities
Graduates of this course may pursue careers as Construction Managers, Project Managers (Construction), Site Managers, Contract Administrators, Estimators, Commercial Managers, Project Engineers, or Construction Consultants across public and private sector construction organisations.
Practical experience
Students will be required to complete a minimum of 300 hours of work placement unit within 12 weeks, which may include face-to-face, virtual, or online engagement.

If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available CSP quota, applicants may be ranked based on academic merit to determine allocation. Applicants who are not offered a CSP may still add a preference for a full-fee place.

What will I study?
The course consists of core units, a professional placement unit, industry research project units, and elective units. The core units develop your construction management knowledge and skills to an advanced level across project management, construction technology, digital systems, contracts and procurement, estimating and commercial management, sustainability, and risk management.
Course structure
In the second year of study, you will complete a professional placement unit and an industry-based project, enabling integration of theory with practice and preparation for professional construction management roles.
The course emphasises both the theoretical foundations of construction management and the application of theory in professional practice, supported through project-based learning, industry-aligned assessments, and practical exercises
A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 160 credit points (cp) as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated.

Admission criteria
Successful completion of a recognised bachelor degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma, masters degree, or equivalent international qualification, in one of the following fields:
- Civil, Construction or Structural Engineering
- Architecture
- Quantity Surveying
- Building Science
- Construction Project Management
International entry pathway
Applicants who have completed the CDU English for Academic Purposes 4 (ZEAP40) or the Accelerated International Masters Qualifying Program (ZAMQP2, ZAMQP1) are eligible for entry.
