Overview
This course reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of tasks relating to servicing and repairing air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles in an automotive service and repair business.
Career opportunities
The completion of this course enables an individual to apply for an AAC02 - Refrigerant handling licence - qualified persons (Automotive air conditioning licence). Users are advised that the scope of the licence will be contingent on unit of competency selection. This licence is governed by the Australian Refrigeration Council, which should be contacted for further information.

What will I study?
VTP396 Refrigerant Handling Licence - Automotive Air Conditioning covers two (2) units of competency from the Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package and which is recognised nationwide.
Course structure
Students will be issued with a 'Statement of Attainment' upon the successful completion.
The total nominal hours for the sequence listed below is 60.

Admission criteria
CDU Domestic Entry Requirements
To gain entry into VTP396 Refrigerant handling licence - Automotive air conditioning candidates require:
> a relevant trade qualification:
- AUR30320 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or its equivalent
- AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or its equivalent
- AUR31120 Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or its equivalent
- AUR31220 Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology or its equivalent
> Licencing and/or legal requirements - Trainee Classroom Licence:
- Trainee License available from www.arctick.org. CL000 - Refrigeration and air conditioning trainee licence (Classroom) To handle refrigerant in a classroom setting only. The licensee cannot handle refrigerant outside the classroom setting. This licence is valid for a period of training which can be up to 1 year.
