Overview
This Course describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to extract and serve espresso coffee beverages using commercial espresso machines and grinders. It requires the ability to advise customers on coffee beverages, select and grind coffee beans, prepare and assess espresso coffee beverages and to use, maintain and clean espresso machines and grinders.
It also includes pre-requisite unit SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety, this gives an understanding of hygienic practices used in a commercial environment for the safety of customers.
This unit applies to any hospitality organisation that serves espresso coffee beverages, including cafes, restaurants, bars, clubs, function and event venues. It applies to espresso machine operators who operate with some level of independence and under limited supervision.

Fees
2023 course fee for urban students (Darwin and Alice Springs) is $220.00.
The course fee for regional and remote students who are eligible for an NT Government supported place is $67.50. For students who are not eligible, the course fee is $220.00.

To achieve VTP454 - Barista Training a total of two (2) units of competency must be completed as detailed below.
Course structure
Students will be issued with a 'Statement of Attainment' upon the successful completion.

Entry requirements
Admission criteria
To gain entry to this course candidates must:
- be eligible under 11H funding to enroll in the course if the student is still attending school. Students will be from year 9, or from year 10 & 11 for Alice Springs only
- be eligible under 11J funding to enroll in the course
Students will need to demonstrate an appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to undertake this program. Students may be required to complete an online LLN assessment to determine any support requirements.

Accreditation
This is a non-award course and a Statement of Attainment will be issued for nationally recognised units of competency successfully completed.
