Bioenergy for electricity generation

solar-biomass

The project completed by ERI researchers investigated the prospects of utilising energy from biomass to supplement solar PV electricity generation.

Researchers analysed domestic garden waste from Darwin and Alice Springs waste management facilities and characterised various other waste streams.

The Darwin garden waste was converted into fuel through anaerobic digestion and pyrolysis processes. A database of different native and invasive plant species from across the Northern Territory was prepared to map out potential raw biomass sources for local production.

The results from the first phases were used to build HOMER Pro® l PV-biofuel hybrid power system models.

The findings from this work lay the foundation for determining the feasibility of biomass incorporated power systems across the NT.
