Our graduates are prepared for a career in a variety of workplaces, including in acute care settings, homeless shelters, government departments and to work in a variety of settings including rural and remote practice. You will be able to work with individuals, groups and communities using occupation-centred practice.
Practice education includes learning through simulation and placement opportunities. Practice education provides students with the opportunity to integrate occupational therapy knowledge and skills in a practice environment.
Occupational Therapy students are required as part of the external accreditation requirements to undertake 1000 hours of practice education across a breadth and depth of practice areas. Practice Education occurs across the program.
In addition to the placement and work-integrated learning, there are intensives involved in many of the units. The program works to align these placements so that students undertaking a full-time study load and following the recommended study plan will attend Darwin 4 times (for those studying the Dual Degree, this is in the third and final years of study; for those studying the Master's Entry course this is in the first and second (i.e. final) year of study).
Intensives provide students with the opportunity to develop and refine their occupational therapy skills. Intensive units are a great way to meet fellow students and build professional relationships and knowledge.

You will be able to work with individuals, groups and communities in social enterprises, charities, large companies, schools and prisons.
