After completing a Master of Professional Accounting at CDU, Bella reached out to the CDU Placement Officer. It proved to be the start of her career.

“I was offered an opportunity to work as a student volunteer in CDU’s Free tax clinic, which is operated by our accounting students and professors as well as accounting professionals,” says Bella.

Starting work

Over two months, Bella gained much practical experience and subsequently got a job offer from the government. She’s now working as a Programme Finance Officer in the Northern Territory Government.

“I’m really appreciative for this opportunity the CDU staff and professors have given to me,” she says.

Making the most out of networking

Since Bella arrived in Darwin, she’s been proactive in meeting people.

“Networking is very important in Darwin,” she says. “I attended an event organised by CDU staff which was a CPA mentoring event. I met my mentor at this event, and she also works in the government.”

Darwin life

Life in Darwin has proved to be better than Bella could have ever hoped for.

“I love hanging out with friends in Darwin as there are so many beautiful places,” she says. “The botanic gardens are only five minutes from my home and is one of my favourite places to go for a walk.”

Bella has also quickly integrated into the community.

“The Darwin community is very welcoming, and the people are all very friendly and approachable,” she says.
