Devaki Monani

Dr Devaki Monani

Dr Devaki Monani joined Charles Darwin University in 2018. She is a fluent speaker of four Indian languages. Devaki’s PhD focused on women’s refuges drawing on a Comparative social policy lens, Women’s human rights frameworks and Knowledge transfer methods between Australia and India. 

Since 2010, Devaki has undertaken research on multicultural settlements in urban and rural Australia. She is currently the Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs, Northern Territory (MACMA, NT). She serves as an Expert panel member on Voluntary Assisted Dying Legislation Reform, Northern Territory and is a member of the Charles Darwin University's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.  

Devaki is an adjunct fellow with the Sir Zelman Cowen Legal Centre, Victoria University and has completed an Honorary Visiting Fellowship with Anti-Slavery Australia, University of Technology Sydney. Devaki has presented at National conferences organised by the Federation of Ethnic Community Council Australia and the Settlement Council of Australia. 

Devaki’s research in 2023 includes: Multicultural Gambling, Settlement of Migrant Communities in the Northern Territory, and Multicultural Women’s Rights. She is currently supervising higher degree students at Charles Darwin University and has previously won the Dean’s Award for the successful delivery of Leadership in Social Policy subject in the Master of Social Work program at CDU.
