Dr Mudassir Anwar is an experienced pharmacy practice researcher whose work sits at the intersection of social pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, and public health. His research explores how people experience medicines and illness in the context of everyday life, with particular focus on health-seeking behaviour, patient adherence, and the expanding role of pharmacists in primary care. A significant body of his work addresses migrant and refugee health, examining barriers to healthcare access among culturally and linguistically diverse populations in Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond. He also has a strong interest in antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacy workforce development, and the role of community pharmacists in improving population health outcomes. Dr Anwar has authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications, attracting over 1000 citations with an h-index of 15. He has secured research funding from the Health Research Council of New Zealand, the Otago Medical Research Foundation, and the New Zealand Pharmacy Education and Research Foundation. He was recognised on the Pakistan Foreign Minister's Honours List in 2020 and has received the Emerging Researcher Award and Publications Award (Silver) from the University of Otago. Dr Anwar welcomes enquiries from prospective research students interested in pharmacy practice, social pharmacy, migrant and refugee health, antimicrobial stewardship, and NT-specific pharmacy and health services research.
