Overview
Applications for 2024 will open from 1st December 2023.
This participatory digital badge offers you opportunities to explore the interlinked concepts and practices of Indigenous recognition, reconciliation and refusal, engage with critiques of these approaches, and critically analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the `three Rs' (Recognition Reconciliation Refusal), which are common dynamics in Indigenous-settler relations and examine the possibilities for justice, restitution and decolonisation each present.
This online course consists of 12 hours of self-study engagement with online learning materials, the contribution to discussion boards and the completion of quizzes over a 2 week period plus 2 x 1-hour weekly webinars.
This course will cover the following topics:
- Understanding the concepts of recognition, reconciliation and refusal in relations between Indigenous peoples and settler states.
- Exploring how these concepts have been applied in different contexts, and critically analysing their strengths and weaknesses.
- Examining the potential for progress in the areas for justice, restitution and decolonisation presented by these concepts.
- Understanding the relationship between the concepts of recognition, reconciliation and refusal and the emerging treaty processes in the Northern Territory and other Australian jurisdictions.
This short course is suitable for government officials, legal professionals and people from community organisations. Upon the completion of your study, you will receive a digital badge by Charles Darwin University.
