Dr Donna Lewis is Associate Director and Curation Lead at the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN) Ecosystem Surveillance program, based at Adelaide University. She is also an adjunct member of the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods at Charles Darwin University.
TERN provides nationally coordinated infrastructure, data and collections for understanding Australia’s ecosystems. In the seminar ‘Australia’s Ecosystems at Scale: TERN Data, Collections and Drone Observations’, Donna will showcase TERN’s capabilities, with a focus on the Ecosystem Surveillance program—including long-term monitoring data, biological collections and environmental samples, and drone-based observations. Together, these resources provide complementary perspectives for understanding, monitoring and analysing ecosystem change across Australia.
With more than 20 years’ experience in field botany, vegetation science and ecological monitoring, Donna leads nationally significant ecological collections and data. Her work advances consistent, accessible environmental data to support long-term ecosystem research and monitoring across Australia.

Media Engagement
This course builds the competencies of participants to engage with media and to understand what type of stories appeal to the media. The participants will learn about the different types of media, how to think about audiences and how to position themselves in the story. The participants will also learn about what the journalists want, the 5W and a H model of storytelling, and what to expect in interviews with the media. All of this is explained with real world examples, and activities to explore how participant's research can be developed in context for a wider audience.
