Dr Danilo Malara, Dr Deepak Pazhayamadom, Dr Laura Smith and Dr Alex Basford work with the Fisheries Division of the Northern Territory Government Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

Danilo, Deepak, Laura and Alex are fisheries researchers specialising in stock assessment, fisheries monitoring, aquaculture, and applied research to support sustainable fisheries management in the Northern Territory. Their work combines field data collection, biological sampling, survey design, and quantitative analysis to provide evidence-based advice for fisheries management.

In the seminar ‘Marine science in the NT: From research and monitoring to stock assessment’, the team will provide an overview of fisheries research in the Northern Territory, highlighting monitoring programs, data collection, and how these activities inform stock assessment and fisheries management.

The seminar will showcase current research projects, emerging challenges, and the role of science in supporting sustainable fisheries. It will also provide insights into career pathways and opportunities for students to engage with applied marine science and research.
