Dr Sonu Yadav is a Principal Molecular Scientist in the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Northern Territory Government, and an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods (RIEL) at Charles Darwin University.
In the seminar ‘Molecular entomology in species conservation, management and beyond’, Sonu will present her research on using genetics and genomics datasets to address key questions in insect conservation, management, and evolutionary biology. She will discuss her work on the adaptation of both specialist and generalist insects to shifting climates and changing landscapes, with a focus on Australian grasshoppers, as well as the invasion genetics of insect pest species.
Sonu will also share her current community science project, which aims to enhance public understanding of molecular biology and raise awareness of STEM career pathways in remote and regional schools across northern Australia.
Sonu’s research focuses on using molecular tools for species detection, management, and conservation. She collaborates with industry partners, researchers, First Nations peoples, policymakers, and university and school students to build a unified biosecurity system.
