Making changes to unit enrolment
The following tabs contain information about making changes to your enrolment. You can add units or change attendance mode up until the last day to enrol. Please be aware of the University's Important Dates page to ensure you still have time to make changes if you need.
Withdrawing from units
If you have enrolled in a unit and no longer wish to study it, you can withdraw from it. Make sure to take note of the University's important dates. All changes to units are made within MyStudentInfo, in the Enrolment section.
- Navigate to the 'Manage units' enrolment step
- Select the Withdraw icon on the left side of the unit you want to withdraw from.
- Complete the withdrawal reason and select OK.
- Select Save My Changes.
You can withdraw from a unit with no academic or financial penalty up until the census date. After this date, there will be a financial penalty; i.e., you will have to pay for the unit.
You can withdraw from a unit with no academic penalty up until the end of week 8.
Changing your unit location or study mode
Some units are offered at multiple campuses, e.g., at Casuarina and Danala/ECP.
Some units might be offered both online (externally) and on campus (internally).
You can add units up until the last day to enrol of each teaching period. If you have made a mistake up to this date simply remove the incorrect unit, and add it again remembering to select the right offering.
Changing study load
You may be able to change your study load if you wish to take on more or less study. Each request will be assessed in accordance with the University's Enrolment Policy. In general, this applies mainly to an enrolment overload. An overload is when a student enrols in 50 credit points in a semester. To be eligible to overload, you must have achieved a minimum GPA of 5.0 and have your course coordinator's written permission. To make such a request, please submit a Special Enrolment eForm or email enrolmenthelp@cdu.edu.au.
Cross-Institutional Study
Cross-institutional means you are studying a Higher Education unit at a university that isn't your home university. You are essentially enrolling across two different institutions at once.
Outgoing cross-institutional study
If you're a current student at CDU, you can apply to study approved units at another Australian university for credit.
To do this, log in to the CDU Portal and submit the Outgoing Cross-Institutional eForm, listing the units you plan to study and supplying the corresponding unit outlines.
Ensure that you check your host university’s rules, key dates, and fees before applying.
Incoming cross-institutional study
If you're a student enrolled in a course of study leading to an award at another Australian institution, you can choose to undertake approved units at CDU for credit at your home institution.
Please head to this page if you are an undergraduate student wishing to make an incoming cross-institutional study request.
If you are a postgraduate student wishing to make an incoming cross-institutional study request, please head to this page.
CDU TAFE
To avoid being charged, make sure you submit your change of enrolment at least 14 days from the start date of the units you are withdrawing from.
An Enrolment and Fees Advice Invoice confirming your amended enrolment will be sent to you once the change to your enrolment has been processed.
Change of enrolment form
If you want to make a change to your enrolment, you must complete the form TAFE102 Change of Enrolment/Withdrawal from Course.
If you are enrolled in a Diploma course, you can withdraw online through MyStudentInfo, on or before the TAFE census date.
Letter, fax or email
If it is not possible for you to complete the form, you can submit your change of enrolment via letter, fax or email to Student Central. If you choose to send a letter to the team, you must provide at least three forms of ID to verify your identity. This could include your:
- student number
- date of birth
- postal address.
Also include your:
- full name
- student number
- course code and course name
- details about the enrolment change you want to make, including unit codes and names.
Taking a break from study
An intermission is a formal leave of absence (6 or 12 months) for students who have completed at least one unit of study. This allows students to pause their studies while retaining their place in the course.
We encourage you to discuss your situation with CDU before you decide to take a break. Contact Student Central to get advice on the best person to talk to.
Apply for an intermission
Log in to the CDU Portal, select eForms and submit an Intermission eForm before the census date for the relevant semester.
Supporting documentation is required when applying for additional time on a previously-approved intermission. Different rules apply for international students.
If you do not re-enrol or do not apply for an intermission from your course by the relevant census date, the University considers you lapsed from your course. To continue your studies you will need to apply through SATAC again.
Returning to study after a break
If you have had a 6 or 12-month break and wish to return to your course, you may need to reset your password before you can enrol online.
You can reset your password at resetpassword.cdu.edu.au. If you experience any difficulties with this process, please contact our IT Service Desk at (08) 7943 6600. Once you have reset your password, follow the guide to Enrolling in units.
CDU TAFE
If you're a TAFE student and want to take a break from study, have a chat with your lecturer to learn about your options. Every TAFE course runs differently, so that's why your lecturer will have the most up to date info about units and study loads.
How can I formally cancel my course?
If you want to withdraw from your course, we encourage you to discuss your situation with Student Central, your lecturer or course coordinator first. At CDU we strive to give students a supportive and flexible learning environment, so it’s often possible to find a solution other than withdrawing.
You can check out these ASK CDU articles for advice before you withdraw.
- Can you change your mode of study for more flexibility?
- Can you spread the load and enrol in a unit in another teaching period?
- Should you take a break from study?
- Should you change your course of study?
You can also explore CDU's support services.
If you decide it is best to cancel your course, log in to the CDU Portal, select eForms and submit a Course Cancellation eForm before the relevant census date.
Changing your course enrolment
You can apply for a course transfer if your current course is not the right fit. The course you wish to transfer to must be at the same or lower AQF level and you must have completed at least 10 credit points in your current course. Certain courses, such as the Bachelor of Nursing, cannot be transferred into and students must undergo the usual admission process to gain entry.
To apply for a course change, log in to the CDU Portal, select the eForm tile, and submit a Course Transfer eForm.
Changing to a course with a higher AQF or quota limit
If you are a current CDU student but wish to gain entry to a course with a higher AQF level or an admissions quota, you must apply through the usual admission process.
International students
Please head to the International Compliance page for more information on course transfers for international students. This information can be found under Additional information -> Changing course.
