  • The Public Health Study Tour (PHST) is a two-week intensive program for public health students to gain experience in the public health sector in Indonesia. The study tour provides an introduction to the public health challenges currently facing Indonesia, as well as existing government, international and community-led initiatives tasked with meeting these challenges. 

    This is a unique opportunity for Australian students to hear from leading health professionals, policy-makers and community health workers in Indonesia, and to discuss approaches to health issues with Indonesian counterparts.

  • Within the Bachelor of Midwifery degree at CDU, students can elect to take a two week clinical placement in Bali as part of the core unit, MID304 Midwifery in Global Perspective. Students complete MID304 during their overseas placement in conjunction with the unit's theoretical study requirements. 

    Students will be exposed to a range of clinical experiences through Yayasan Kartini Bali and will work alongside independent midwives in affiliated antenatal clinics. This collaboration encourages the exchange of knowledge and practice for mutual benefit and enables the practical application of knowledge obtained from the theoretical component of MID304. 

    This clinical placement is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council until 2021.

  • Students will be immersed in fascinating Vietnamese culture west of the capital city, Hanoi, whilst gaining practical clinical skills and helping to build the capacity of a resource poor region. In collaboration with Griffith University, students will help run health outreach projects with local healthcare workers, under supervision. 

    Placement hours (80 clinical hrs) are linked to third year Community Nursing Clinical Unit NUR344. Only students who have completed their clinical placement for NUR343 prior to the tour dates are eligible to apply.

  • CDU offers two intensive Indonesian Language and Cultural Programs suited to those who have a personal interest in developing their understanding of Indonesian language and culture. This short-term program is run in collaboration with CDU's partner Universitas Nusa Cendana (UNDANA), Kupang and the semester program is delivered through the Australian Consortium for 'In-Country' Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) where students study at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta.

  • The Greek In-Country Language Program is a great opportunity for students to experience Greek culture first hand. The four-week program is run during study period 2 each year (1-20 July, 2019) and is available in all three streams: beginners, intermediate and advanced. 

    The aim of the program is an immersive experience in culture and daily interaction with people of the country. Combining rigorous coursework, study trips and cultural excursions this intensive course translates to a full semester of Greek for participating students.

  • The Timor-Leste Humanitarian Assistance Practicum is a unique opportunity to gain first-hand practical skills and experiences in the field of international humanitarian aid and development. This placement will expose students to the professional environment of a leading humanitarian aid organisation. 

    Students will be immersed in activities linked to disaster preparedness, community health (particularly focusing on water, sanitation and hygiene promotion) and community engagement. The practicum involves research and fieldwork activities. 

    Applicants must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Humanitarian and Community Studies. Placement dates will be negotiated with the unit coordinator. Please send an expression of interest to Adriana Stibral including a cover letter, CV and supporting documents.

  • ACICIS runs Study Indonesia Programs (SIP) which consists of a variety of study options taught in English, in Indonesia. Study Indonesia Programs are open to both Australian and non-Australian students as well as private individuals. The ACICIS Creative Arts and Design Practicum Program (CADPP) will expose Australian students to the vibrancy of contemporary Indonesian arts and cultural production, combining academic elements with hands-on practical creative production experience. 

    Running from early January to mid-February each year, the CADPP is a six-week intensive academic and vocational study program in Indonesia for high-achieving upper undergraduate Australian and international students.

  • The Development Studies Immersion Program(DSIP) is a semester-long community development study program hosted by Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This program allows participants to gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of international development through frontline community development projects.

    The program entails six weeks of Indonesian language classes and coursework at UGM, seminar series on contemporary development issues in Indonesia as well as an eight-week practice placement with a local, community-based or government-related development organisation. Students will be working on a range of development issues including disaster response, gender, health and sanitation, corruption and governance, education and community development. 

    Students applying for this program must be enrolled in units HCS350 Professional Practice Placement (national/international) and HCS365 Integrated Methods of Humanitarian and Community Studies.
